2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Transition Comes After Poor Response
Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming unveiling last autumn.
On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer informed team members about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had shown the necessity for a clearer game identity.
Ismailer noted that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to address player expectations.
A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions
The news echoes a similar move taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock development group.
Here is the full content from the president's memo:
Team—
I understand you all just completed your gathering - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a update, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and creative creators we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to continue.”
Through your commitment and versatility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was revealing. It confirmed the potential of a action-packed game but made clear we still had work to do. It uncovered the need for a clearer identity.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the feedback to consideration and reimagined Project ETHOS with a revitalized vision - one that’s ready to fulfill its potential to our audience.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS grows every day. To boost the incredible development you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the new Director of 31st Union. After a period of discussions, he comes aboard us on the specified date.
Ben’s guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming field is extensive, having spent the past decade and a half producing and overseeing some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in receiving Ben in the coming days. We are all excited to persist seeing the evolution of the game in the months to follow.
David
